Vinyl backed door mats are generally cheaper than rubber backed door mats but waht are the benefits of each type of door mat backing?

Vinyl Backed door mats

Vinyl backed door mats are generally lighter in weight than its rubber backed counterpart so is beneficial for door mats that have to be placed and removed frequently. Also vinyl backing is much less likely to stain hard floors. Some vinyl backed door mats are suitable for occasional machine washing but must never be tumble dried.

Rubber Backed Door Mats

Rubber backed door mats are generally heavier and are available with a ‘cleated’ back. A cleated back has lots of raised nodules which helps a mat to grip a carpeted surface and prevent a door mat from moving around. Rubber backed door mats are available that are suitable for regular machine washing and tumble drying.
